READING. Part 4.

Here is a directive from the book of Jeremiah in the bible, 'The LORD , the God of Israel, said to me: “Write down in a book everything that I have told you..." ' (Jer. 30:1-2 GNB). God often sends messages into our hearts for dissemination to other people singly or collectively. As a matter of fact, this is how His manual for us, the bible was compiled to become the Holy Book. In the same way, God  sends messages to men for the use of other men.
In 2011, our church embarked on a mission work at a village outside the city. We started with  regular Sunday fellowship meetings with the people of the village and the surrounding hamlets. As the pastor of the church, I had close interactions with the people and that left with me a pleasant experience of rural village life that I carry till today. At the fellowship meetings in the village, I spotted a particular girl who was raw but gifted in singing. I took interest in her, hoping that I would help her to develop her latent talent in the worship of God. Later we left the village due to stiff opposition but the memory did not die in me, rather it inspired a desire to write a book based on my experience, and that led to the writing of my latest book MIRIAM. The book teems with aspects of rural evangelism, mission work, church planting and especially worship - an imaginary actualization of my dream of grooming a rural teenage girl into a seasoned, successful worship star of the Almighty God. That dream girl is MIRIAM, the personalization of an inspired desire, the manifestation of a dream.
The book also deals with the subject of change. There is the obvious need for a change in our way of life as a people. We need a cultural transition from selfish, divisive religiosity and tribal separatism to a people  transformed from the heart, together becoming one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity, the Nigeria of our dreams.
These are the values MIRIAM hopes to inculcate in its readers and the goals the book purposes to attain.  Although set as fiction to entertain, it is a clarion call for the youth to wake up their God-given talents. it is also a book that should be found in individual collections and libraries as a resource in the worship of God, in soul winning for Christ, in mission work, as well as in church planting and growth.
