THEY THAT WORSHIP GOD

John 4: 24 says, 'God is Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.' In 2016 I decided to examine deeper this verse of scripture by looking at bible characters who were giants in the worship of Jehovah God. I felt this could help us to learn more about the worship of His majesty. I wrote my thoughts in my book published the same year titled SUNDAY DEVOTIONAL WORSHIP (still available on Amazon.com), in which I x-rayed the lives of fourteen bible personalities under. Here is another of the 14 excerpts from the book.
2. NOAH
'Then Noah built an altar ...and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake...nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done" (Gen. 8:20-21 NKJV).
If the old English adage that says 'curiosity killed the cat' was true, then I probably would have been killed by curiosity as a youngster. It must have been God's intervention alone that restrained my brothers and I, rather impish boys, from the urge to upturn sacrice clay pots  regularly placed under an Iroko tree on the way to our primary school. For we had heard tempting stories that apart from the dead animals and other strange items visible on those pots, things like cola nuts, money coins, roasted yam or plantain, fried meat or even boiled eggs were hidden under the floating palm oil! Later, it became obvious to us that some people were offering sacrifices to strange gods that never turned up to consume the sacrifices! Thank God we weren't daring enough to touch those pots then, for we were children of a praying mother. Glory to God!
After the fall and God's curse on man, sin continued to increase alarmingly on earth until God became grieved in His heart and regretted creating man. God decided to destroy man and all other creatures with the mighty flood (Gen.6: 5-13). However, Noah found grace with God who chose to exempt him and his family as well as a selection of animals from destruction. God brought all of them out safely on land to replenish the earth. Noah, awestruck by the whole overwhelming scenario, offered an unprecedented manner of sacrifice to worship God. He built an altar, took one each of every 'clean' animal from the ark, and sacriced them on it to God. The aroma of the massive, 'clean' sacrifice rose up to God, was quite pleasing to Him and made Him to change His mind about mankind's sins. He resolved to give man another chance. He caused Noah and his family to replenish again the earth He had destroyed. Noah's epoch-making sacrifice instituted God's acceptance of burnt offering as atonement for sins of His people. Sins were forgiven after 'clean' animals were slaughtered and burnt on the altar. Thus God began a new thing through Noah - pardon of sins through sacrifice! Then Jesus came and perfected the act. He gave His life once and for all for the sins of men - the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus saved mankind through His self-sacrifice on the cross. Halleluia!
