THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM - 8. KING SOLOMON

'...You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a littlechild...therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people...” Then God said to him: “...see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart...And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor..."(I Kings 3:7-13 NKJV).
There is a story I love. Three wise old men named Wisdom, Wealth and Well-being came and sat near the frontdoor of a house. They were invited in but they declined, saying only one of them could be invited in. The family deliberated on the matter as who to invite in and finally resolved to invite Wisdom in. To their amazement, Wealth and Well-being also got up and followed Wisdom into the home! He who has wisdom has everything! Solomon succeeded his father David as king over Israel. After establishing his reign as king he went and offered a whopping one thousand bulls as burnt sacrifice to God, an unprecedented act in Jehovah's worship. God visited him that same night and asked him what he wanted most. He was wise enough to ask for more wisdom. So God gave him a good measure of wisdom, and, wait for this, He added everything else He needed!. Under this unction, young King Solomon performed creditably well, started walking within the commandments and statutes of the Lord guided by his God-endowed wisdom. He followed his father's advice, ruled his people in justice, and surrounded himself with God-fearing officials to administer his rulership (1 Kings3:16-28). Kings and Queens came from other lands to pay him obeisance. As it was in the time of Joseph in Egypt, the land enjoyed an unprecedented economic boom and great peace in Solomon's time. Thanks to his tremendous worshipful heart towards God. Brethren, we cannot worship our God enough!
King Solomon became the wisest, wealthiest and the most influential king of his time, perhaps even of all time as some have claimed (2 Chr.9:22). Monarchs came to learn at his feet bringing more treasures. He spoke 3,000 proverbs and wrote 1,005 songs mostly on God and His marvellous works of creation (1 Kings 4:32,33). He built for God the magnificent Solomon's temple in Jerusalem and was reputed to have offered 22,000 bulls and 120,000 sheep as sacrifice to God at the dedication of the temple and treated the whole nation to a great feast (1Kings 8:63). His reign was peaceful and prosperous. But King Solomon loved women too much, especially foreign ones. He had a whooping 700 wives and 300 mistresses! Not surprisingly, these women turned his heart away from Jehovah God to their own strange gods, and made him turn to evil. This made God draw away from him; He died rejected by God. God gave the kingdom to Israel's adversaries but left only the tribe of Judah for Solomon's inheritance as He had promised - that the kingdom would remain in the house of David forever (I Kings8:25, 11:12). So from David, through Solomon, God kept a posterity line for Himself - the line that brought Jesus Christ on earth! Thus God recompensed Solomon, perhaps because of his worshipful heart.
