GO TO THE ANTS 🐜 🐜 🐜

'Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, which, having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?' (Proverbs 6:6-9 NKJV).
I have watched ants in action before and I believe what the bible says of them. As I sat on the paved steps leading to my garden chewing coconut, a few crumbs fell by my side and I planned to pick them up when leaving later. Minutes later when I looked, I saw a number of ants carrying the crumbs away to a far off hole in the pavement. To encourage them, I threw more crumbs on the spot and to my amazement, a larger contingent arrived and were carting the bounty away, some carrying pieces much bigger than their own size! And it all started with one single ant on patrol which found food and ran back to base, not empty-handed, but took with it a piece of the food and brought others back to the discovery. I had fun giving them still more crumbs; it was like feeding the chimpanzees at the zoo! On a sober note, consider the level of industry, productivity, commitment, selflessness and unity these smallest of animals displayed. They don't wait to be schooled, ordered or pushed before doing the needful or the expected. They know what's good for their colony and survival and they commit themselves to attaining it. Many of us must have seen mud towers built by ants before; some of the mounds can be more than two meters tall!
The ant attitude should be our attitude to life in our family, the church, the community and our nation. Our fathers had many wives and bore many children, but they took them all to the farm and produced plenty of food for themselves, their community and the nation. The church is producing many workers but there's only little commitment to evangelism, mission work, disciple making or church planting; the kingdom of God is therefore witnessing minimal growth. Our communities these hard times are practising the 'mind your own business' and 'I before others' mentality. We build high walls and tall gates around ourselves and run our own republics within, providing power, water, security and even food exclusively for ourselves. Many do not know their neighbours by face or name. All these have caused selfishness, greed and corruption in the nation, stemming from the 'I, me, mine, myself alone' attitude. Many are running away to places where they feel the grass is greener, but find the contrary when they get there. On the contrary, take a look at those nations that live the attitude of the ant. They are the ones advancing in leaps and bounds it the present world. They make use of their mammoth population to great advantage. They uphold the desirable qualities of productivity, commitment, selflessness and unity, like the ants. It would seem that God has deliberately blessed our families, the church and our country with great numbers like those rapidly growing nations as a blessing, but we are yet to use it to our advantage. It is now up to us to brace up ourselves and become like the ants.
