BEARING FRUIT

And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:12)

The banana tree is a unique plant. Unlike other fruit trees that bear fruit seasonally and continue to grow, the banana tree grows to its fullest, bears one bunch of fruits, gives rise to at least one seedling in its place, then dies. Thus it reproduces its own kind not by its fruit, but by bearing its young! Almost all other fruit trees reproduce themselves through dispersal of their seeds.
The Almighty God has blessed all creatures living on earth to reproduce themselves so as to perpetuate their species. The bible says, 'Then God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” ' (Genesis 1:28). With us humans, God has ordained among us relationships that bear fruit. His purpose is to bring increase and fruitfulness on earth thus perpetuating His creation. By living in the following God-ordained relationships, we cause His will, multiplication and increase, to be done on earth:
1.Parent/child.  Adam bore Seth (Gen. 5:3-4); Abraham bore Isaac ( (Gen. 21:2)
2.Discipler/Disciple. Jesus discipled the 12 (Matt. 28:19-20); Paul discipled Timothy (2 Tim. 2:2)
3.Leader/follower. Moses led Joshua (Joshua 1:1-2); Elijah led Elisha (2Kings 2:3-4)
4.Mentor/mentee. Naomi mentored Ruth (Ruth 1:15-16); Aquilla and Priscilla mentored Apolos (Acts 18:26)
5.Holy Spirit/fruit of the Spirit. (Gal. 5:22)

Jesus Christ taught us the ultimate way to fruitfulness in John 15:5-6, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned". When we become believers in Him, He sends inside us the Holy Spirit to bear in us the fruit of love, joy, peace, faithfulness, kindness, goodness, meekness, longsuffering and self control. Through these, we reveal to others that we are children and heirs of God's kingdom, not only on earth, but in that which is to come. Halleluia!
