AWESOME GOD!
Several years back we took a trip to Ęrin Ile - off Akure Road in Oşun State of Nigeria, the home town of one of our leaders for his mother's burial ceremony. Even though it was well pass sunrise, the surrounding mountains in the town were still covered with thick dew smouldering like smoke. It was a strange but graceful spectacule to most of us city dwellers, but to me it was reminiscent of the glory of God that descended on Mount Sinai in the wilderness!
The awesomeness of the person, power, glory and works of The Almighty God is succinctly revealed in the scriptures:
1)To show the awesome nature of His Person we read, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” ~ Exodus 33:19-20.
2) For the nature of His power, we read again in the book of Exodus: 'Then it came to pass...that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled...Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire...and the whole mountain quaked greatly.' ~ Exodus 19:16,18
3) To reveal the indescribable nature of His glory, Apostle John recounts the scenario shown him at God's Throne Rome in heaven, "And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God." ~ Revelation 4:3-5.
4) Lastly regarding the awesomeness of His works, according to astronomers, "In the Observed Universe, Earth is just 1 of 3.2 trillion planets in our galaxy; the Sun is just 1 of 200 billion stars in the Milky Way: the Milky way is just 1 of the 2 trillion Galaxies!"
King David of Israel said, "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels..." ~ Ps. 8:3-5.
