INFINITUDE OF GOD
“Take a long, hard look. See how great He is—infinite, greater than anything you could ever imagine or figure out! (Job 36:26 MSG)
I ran away from additional mathematics in school when our teacher, a slightly eccentric South African genius, started taking us in abstract topics like calculus, permutations, infinity equations and sums 'tending to zero'. My artistic mind couldn't comprehend such topics on calculations, so I stopped.
Infinity is defined in mathematics as an infinitely or indefinitely great number or amount; in general physics as a dimension or quantity of sufficient size to be unaffected by finite variations, while In optics, it is a point that is far enough away from a lens, mirror, prism, etc for the light emitted by it to fall in parallel rays on the surface of the reflecting object.
Infinite means endless in time, space, or quantity. The latest attempt at estimating the vastness of the universe states: 'In the observable universe, Earth is just one of 3.2 trillion planets in our Galaxy. Our Sun is one of 200 billion Stars in the Milky Way our Galaxy. And the Milky Way is just one of 2 trillion Galaxies.' [Tech Brains (Not yet rated)] . The sheer magnitude of the entire cosmos appears almost impossible for the human mind to fathom or even conjecture.
King David was most likely in the Spirit when he wrote Psalm 8. 'When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?' (Psalms 8:3-4). In other words, how can any human comprehend or fathom the extent of Your greatness? That was some 3,000 years ago and man in still striving to know God and the extent of His creation. Someday, man would bow down to the Almighty Creator in surrender to His excellency; the One who declares Himself as The Alfa and Omega, The First and The Last, The Beginning and The End, and give Him glory, honour and majesty for ever and ever.
The Almighty God queried the wisdom and eloquence of Job and his friends while they were debating God’s judgment and wisdom, [1] “Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? [3] Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me...“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? [32] Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? [33] Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?" (Job 38:1-3, 31-33 NKJV).
Apostle Paul wrote about the heavens. From his words in 2 Corinthians 12:2, we have the understanding that there are three types of heaven in Scripture: "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth) such an one caught up to the Third Heaven". And also in Ephesians 4:10, he wrote, 'He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.' Scripture thus tells of three distinct heavens: the first heaven where the clouds are (Job 38:9): the second heaven where the sun, moon and stars are (Isaiah 13:10); and the third heaven – the Heaven of heavens – where God and all the heavenly being's dwell (2 Cor.12:2).
Friends, this shows that God's dwelling is atop everything else that has existence. The trillions of trillions of planets in the limitless universe that men are still striving to estimate are mere works of His hands. He formed the endless universe, controls it and only He can know its extent and its end. His Greatness is unfathomable; His Glory is Inestimable; His infinitude is incomprehensible; and His Majesty is indescribable. He is GOD - the Generator Of Diversity!
A.W. Tozer wrote of God's Infinitude in his book Knowledge of the Holy, "Because God’s nature is infinite, everything that flows out of it is infinite also. We poor human creatures are constantly being frustrated by limitations imposed upon us from without and within. The days of the years of our lives are few, and swifter than a weaver’s shuttle...How completely satisfying to turn from our limitations to a God who has none. Eternal years lie in His heart. For Him time does not pass, it remains; and those who are in Christ share with Him all the riches of limitless time and endless years."
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Someday, His saints will dwell with Him for aye!
