THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM - 5. MOSES

“I will sing to the Lord , for He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! (Exodus 15:1 NKJV).
Rumours had it that Michael Jackson, one of the celebrated popsingers of all time, got a place on Mount Everest reserved for his burial with the motive that when he died, he would be preserved in the icy peaks of the world's highest mountain and his body would be fresh and ready for him to inhabit again when he reincarnated. But alas, his last song was released after his death, and he was not buried on Mount Everest; American authorities insisted that the body of a legend like him had to be buried in his homeland! Talk about vanity upon vanity...
Moses' song of praise to God, partly quoted above, was after he beheld God's awesome power!  He beheld God's great power that parted the Red Sea, made him lead the chidren of Israel safely across on dry land and the returning tide that swept away Pharaoh and his host hotly pursuing them. On the other side of the sea, overwhelmed by the awesome demonstration of God's power, Moses burst forth into singing God's praise and the people joined him (Ex.15:1-18). Then his sister Miriam, (obviously a better singer and apparently more excited), took the timbrel and led the women in the first recorded praise and worship session! God was so delighted that He proceded to perform a chain of miracles in the midst of the people in the desert as a result of that first praise orchestrated by Moses: bitter water was made sweet, manna fell from heaven, meat came from the desert, water came from the rock, victory was won over the Amalekites etc.(Ex.15:22 -17:14).
The bible counts Moses as one of God's greatest worshipers. It records another song of Moses in the book of psalms. The psalm says in part, "Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God...For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night." (Ps.90:1-4). This was the first among the series of 10 psalms intended for Sabath worship, an indication that Moses was reckoned to be among frontliners in the worship of Yahweh.
Another notable instance in the book of Deuteronomy reveals Moses' outstanding heart of worship of the Almighty God. The same day Moses sang this song to God, God told him, “Go up this mountain...view the land of Canaan, and die on the mountain which you ascend...because you did not hallow Me in the midst of the children of Israel. '(Deut. 32:48-51). Moses took the rebuke, obeyed God to the point of death without question, went up the mountain and died. We recall  that Jesus also sang a hymn with His disciples then went to the mount of crucifixion to die as written of Him. They both worshiped God till the end!
