THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM - 6. KING DAVID

'...He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will’ (Acts 13:22 NKJV).
Here in part is the dossier of King David, whom God described as 'man after His own heart'. It is given here for our emulation. 1)He had learnt skills for God's worship early in life; he wrote Psalm 23 at a very tender age. 2)At 17, he was picked up from the pits as a shepherd lad and anointed in place of a despotic king in Israel. 3)He dared to fight Goliath to honour God when but a teenager and acquired the knack for battle.  4)He endured over 10 years of persecution by King Saul before he was finally crowned king at 30, thereafter reigning for over 40 years. 5)He knew the power in the praise and worship of God and in prayer. 6)He honoured God in his ways and reverenced the symbol of His glory - the Ark of Testimony. 7)He asked God first before making his decisions. 8)He was quick to confess and repent of his sins before God. 9)He respected the anointing on God's chosen ones. 10)He nursed a passionate ambition to build a befitting place of worship for God; only God could stop him from building the magnificient Jerusalem temple
King David was many personalities rolled into one. He was one war commander who fought several battles and lost none; a poet and prayer warrior who wrote half of the Bible book of Psalms; a musician and inventor of musical instruments for temple worship; a ruler, priest and prophet over Israel; a carrier of God's anointing to reign over His people. He was very charitable and benevolent, blessing God and his people with his great wealth. He restored peace to Israel from her many battles, ushering in an era of prosperity for his successor. He allied Israel with her surrounding nations thus strenghtening already strained economic ties with them. He was probably the greatest worshiper of God in his time, instituting 24/7 worship of God in a tabernacle built solely for that purpose in the city of David. He planned the building of the magnifient temple in Jesusalem which was implemented by his son Solomon.
King David's spiritual life is also worthy of emulation: 1]He quickly accepted his sin when Nathan the prophet confronted him with the charge of willful adultery and murder in the Bathsheba affair.  2]He spared the life of his sworn enemy, King Saul, when presented twice with the  opportunity to destroy him and be free from his persecutionns. 3]He showed kindness to Saul's household after his death - he restored Mephibosheth, Saul's grandson, from penury to royalty.. 4]David refused to drink the water his mighty men brought him by their blood; too humbled by their unflinching loyalty, he poured it out in honour to God. Little wonder God chose him as the human line of Jesus Christ the Messiah!
