Mighty Names of Jesus [3]

MESSIAH

The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” (John 12:12-13 NKJV).

A coronation is both the symbolic religious ceremony during which a sovereign is crowned and the physical act of placing a crown on a monarch's head. King Charles III's coronation will take place on Saturday May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London. It formalises the monarch's role as the head of the Church of England and marks the transfer of their title and powers. King Charles had been named the next King of the English people from an earlier date even  before her late mother vacated the throne.
The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem was a kind of coronation, for the people welcomed and crowned their long-awaited King. The Messiah had long been promised Israel, and now had come. Matthew's gospel says, 'All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey’ ” (Mt. 21:4-5).
The Hebrew word 'mashiach' is translated to mean 'the anointed one'. In bible times, the anointed one was the person chosen as the saviour of the people from particular oppression at a time in their history. To the Jews it had been foretold that a messiah would come from their midst to save them from the tyranny of the Roman government.
'Jesus Christ' actually means Jesus the Messiah or Jesus the Anointed One, emphasizing the fact that the man Jesus was God's Anointed One, the promised Messiah." On the day of Pentecost, Apostle Peter declared to the multitude in Jerusalem, “All the people of Israel, then, are to know for sure that this Jesus, whom you crucified, is the one that God has made Lord and Messiah!” (Acts 2:36 GNB). And Jesus Himself, the Messiah of the world, said to all His followers, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV). That's the promise of the Messiah to His believers these turbulent times!
