Mighty Names of Jesus [4]

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses....And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev. 19:14, 16 NKJV)

We were still in primary school when Her Royal majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh visited Nigeria on what became her last one before Nigeria became an independent nation in 1960. As children we had the role of being lined up on the streets waving our mini British flags, a.k.a. 'Union Jack', cheering and hailing the sovereign Queen of the British Commonwealth. Children's Day, now presently celebrated every May 27 in many parts of the world, Nigeria inclusive, started as Empire Day, the day observed throughout the British Commonwealth nations since the first decade of the 20th century.
Today, like other past kingdoms of this world, only relics of the British Empire remain. One famous speaker quoted Napoleon as saying, "My kingdom and Alexander the Great's kingdom will come to an end but Christ's kingdom will not, because we conquered ours with weapons but He conquered His with love." A verse of scripture states, 'And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Rev. 11:15). George Frederick Handel in his work MESSIAH, composed the all-time great Halleluia Chorus using the exact words of this verse.
In some nations on great occasions like the coronation of a king or queen, or installation of a president or head of state, the Halleluiah Chorus is rendered in high praise of the King of kings, an acknowledgment of the supremacy of Christ over the rulers of the empires of this world. The British anthem itself begins with the prayer, 'God save our gracious King'!
There was a  day in heaven when the greatest match-past took place. A grand parade comprising Christ on a white horse and a retinue of angels in white garment followed on white horses. Christ was adorned in His insignia of sovereignty wearing a robe on which was written 'King of kings and Lord of lords' (Rev.19:11). Christ is not just the supreme ruler of all creation, He will come to judge all men at the end. He will make war, and will finally defeat the devil - enemy of the saints, and be the King of the entire universe forever. Praise His name!
