_Foremost Names and Titles of Jesus_

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

_'And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.'_ (Revelation 19:16 NKJV).

Children's Day, presently celebrated every May 27 in many parts of the world, Nigeria inclusive, started as Empire Day, a day observed throughout the British Empire since the first decade of the twentieth century. It was a day set aside to honour the British Queen as the imperial head of the British Commonwealth, Nigeria being a member. As schools children, we had the privilege of being lined up on the streets waving our mini British flags, a.k.a. 'Union Jack', cheering and hailing the sovereign Queen of Commonwealth nations. Today only relics of the British Empire remain. And it is the same with other kingdoms of this world.

A verse of scripture states, '... “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ; and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Rev. 11:15). There was a similar day like the Empire Day in heaven and a semblance of a match-past took place. A motorcade comprising Christ on a white horse and a retinue of angels in white garment followed also on white horses. Christ Himself, like the Queen on Empire Day, was adorned in His insignia of sovereignty wearing a robe on which was written 'King of kings and Lord of lords' Halleluia!

Unlike the Queen who we saw wearing only one crown, the King of kings and Lord of lords wore many crowns! He is King of Queens and Lord of Presidents as well! The King of kings and Lord of lords is not just the supreme monarch, He is also the judge of all men (Rev.19:11). He is called 'Faithful and True' and will judge all men in righteousness at the end of the age. He also makes war; He will finally defeat the devil, the enemy of the saints, and be their King forever.

George Frederick Handel composed the Halleluia Chorus using the exact words of this verse. In some nations on great occasions like the coronation of a king or queen, or installation of a president or head of state, this same Chorus is rendered in high praise of the King of kings. To me, it is an acknowledgment of the supremacy of Christ over the rulers of the empires of this world, The British anthem itself begins with 'God save our gracious King/Queen!'

Chorus.  _King of kings, Lord of lords_ [From 1000 Choruses, Compiled by Olusegun Isaac, #237]

King of kings, Lord of lords

Lion of Judah. Word of God,

King of kings, Lord of lords

Lion of Judah, Word of God,

And here he comes,

The King of glory comes in righteousness,

He comes to judge the earth

And here He comes

The King of glory comes

With justice, He'll rule the earth.

*Reading*.  Revelation 11.  Revelation 19.

*The Word.*  Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king...” (John 18:37a)

*Worship line.*  “They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings" (Rev. 17:14)

*Prayer*.  Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom. (Luke 23:42).

Last line.  Only those who accept Jesus as their King now will reign with Him later in His kingdom. Have you? It's getting late.

*Charge*.  Jesus is coming back in great glory to take with Him saints on earth to His heavenly Kingdom where they will abound forever in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost! Don't you want to be a part of this Kingdom?
