NEW YEAR, NEW HEART
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert." (Isaiah 43:18-19 NKJV)
As each year rolls by, I reiterate on my achievements in the year just ended. Invariably, I find I have entered another year with many requests from God still outstanding, unanswered. What can the matter be? Has'nt God promised to grant us the desires of our heart? Has He not said He would crown the year with fatness? One writer quipped, "As the calendar turns to January, we’re filled with hope that the new year is going to be different, that things are going to be better. But, God doesn’t make us better—He makes us new!" I couldn't agree with her less! More than anything, the fault is in our hearts! There is a condition to fulfill first. Something has to change in our lives for our total fulfilment to start coming.
The key to prosperity and well being is obedience to God and His word. The bible says in Isaiah 1:19, “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land." Naaman the leper had a longing desire to be healed. The Syrian commander came all the way to Elisha the servant of God in Israel and God gave him His word. At first he despised God's word, but later had a change of heart and heeded the words from God. He got his heart's desire. (2Kings 5).
Obedience to God is difficult without a change in our hearts. The bible says, 'Therefore if anyone is in Christ the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here' (2 Cor.5:17). The writer I quoted earlier continues, "No amount of changes we make are going to bring results that compare to actively seeking Jesus—and allowing Him to transform us."
The key to the door of prosperity God has opened for us is not ajar through our disobedience of His word! This new year, choose to make a lasting change by consistently drawing nearer to God and keeping His Word. His word says, 'Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you!' Obey and prosper.
