PURSUE IN PRAYERS

'So David inquired of the Lord , saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” ' (I Sam. 30:8 NKJV).
I have been pursued before in my dream by a whip lashing, club branding masquerade that refused to turn back until I fell into a ditch, but that was a long time ago as a mischievous lad. As playful boys we have also joined the mob pursuing petty rogues in our neighbourhood shouting, 'Ole, Ole' until we caught them and dragged them to the police station. So I know what it means to pursue a culprit physically until he gets the punishment he deserves. Have you lost something you really treasure to someone else? Have you been cheated out of your right before? Have you ever lost a dispute over your rightful possession? The tendency is to mete out instant justice to the offender by yourself 0and get even. That's jungle justice; it's 'chicken break my pot, I break its eggs!' In 1 Samuel 30, King David returned home from battle to find that another enemy had vandalized the camp and looted away all their earthly possessions including wives and children. He and his men were pained to the marrow and wept bitterly, but God's Spirit inside David prevailed. It made his inquire of God what to do, and God said pursue, overtake and recover all. They did and recovered everything! The point we are making here is that it was after David asked from God the strategy for redress that God answered and gave His own strategy for vengeance. 'Vengeance is mine, says the Lord!'
Jesus our Lord taught us to turn the other cheek. When we realize that He is the Captain of the hosts of heaven, we would understand that truly the weapon of our warfare is not carnal but mighty though God. He had combatant power but never used it. Instead He went to pray each day at dawn to recieve the strategy for the day's battles from the Father. Without physical weapons He defeated the enemies of His ministry hands down and declared, "It is finished". He taught us that our warfare is fought on our knees. We will certainly have grouses to pick with our leaders and wars to fight with the system be it political, secular or spiritual. Our instrument of reprisal is not combat but fervent prayers, and our place of warfare is our closet. That is where the battle is won and lost. The 2019 elections have come and done with but our prayers must not cease. While some losers have magnanimously congratulated their  winner opponents, many will be heading for the courts seeking redress. Manifestos have been known never to manifest, or worse still, manifest to the contrary. Hidden agendas and bigotry begin to come alive. Personal interests begin to take the forefront. Paying back of debts and pledges incurred for campaigns remain on-going liability. And party matters become priority.
At a time in the bible, Judah was besieged by an ally of powerful enemies. In trepidation, King Jehoshaphat with the people sought the Lord's face on their knees with fasting (2Chr.20:3,4). God took up the battle from them saying this battle in not yours but Mine (vs.15). Then they all worshiped God and God gave the strategy that destroyed their enemies and all their evil plans. Brethren, the season to pray has just begun. Let us fight these enemies of our progress on our knees. We shall surely overcome.
