RETRIBUTION

Jesus gave us a parable in Matthew's gospel.
“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?  Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.  Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.  But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’  and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,  the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of,  and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matt.24:45-51 NKJV).
Retribution is comeuppance. It is getting one's dues, particularly the bad dues for one's inaction or misdemeanor, in full measure. Shakespeare says in Julius Caesar, that the evil that men do follows after them! In this life there is no getting away with evil. It always catches up with the perpetrator whether while still living or dead. So let none of us think of getting away with our sins, especially the unconfessed ones, or the crimes unrepented of. Let the believer beware; the sins of disobedience, unforgiveness or even idleness will be recompensed (Heb.2:2). Let spiritual leaders beware, for every word spoken as coming from the Lord, will be weighed and judged if found below measure (Matt.16:23 GNB). Let our political leaders learn their lessons from those six governors and senators who sought to perpetuate themselves in office, who misconstrued their popularity among the populace but lost woefully in this past elections. No one can eat his cake, whether national or otherwise, and have it! Let our rulers beware; the promises in their party manifestos were made under God for the people's welfare and progress in the society. And let our number one citizen beware; we heard the pledge he made on social media that he will sanitize the nation, recover our common wealth and bring every rogue to judgement. To compromise this stand in favour of any other agenda is to fall under God's judgement.
Contrary to God's will, King David took a census of Israel at the peak of his reign to show off his might and success. Despite his lieutenants' objection to this fragrant disobedience to God's purpose, he went ahead and enumerated his subjects. God's wrath descended on the nation and hundreds of thousands of the people died instantly, perhaps to disrupt and confuse the census figures and bring David's sinful act openly to judgement. Even those who love God and are loved by Him will face retribution if they ere, talk less of those who serve their own ambitions. Let all beware. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God!
